Aza Power

Founded in 2021, AZA has progressed rapidly from research to commercialization, supported by Minnesota’s Grid Catalyst and the University of St. Thomas’ BEST START program. With a team of experienced engineers and strategists, AZA is leading the shift toward ammonia-based energy—beginning in Minnesota and expanding globally. By leveraging ammonia’s advantages, AZA provides a fuel that is clean, abundant, and logistically superior. For the military, this means stronger energy security, reduced operational vulnerabilities, and a practical way to meet environmental goals. That is significant because military operations demand reliable, efficient, and secure energy sources, especially in contested environments.
Technology
- Modified turbulent jet ignition system that uses a pre-combustion chamber.
- Pre-combustion chamber improves turbulence and temperature—two of the three key factors for effective ammonia combustion.
- The prechamber locally heats the fuel-air mixture, helping it ignite and spread more easily.
- Also releases turbulent jets that mix the gases and enhance combustion in the main engine cylinder.
- Allows customers to upgrade their current engines and generators to run on clean ammonia—without buying costly new tech like hydrogen engines or ammonia fuel cells.
Military Applications & Benefits
- Clean energy, efficiency, and reliability are key for the military and ammonia stands out.
- Useful for remote or unmanned locations because it doesn’t degrade over time and doesn’t pose exposure risks
- Helps ammonia burn more like traditional hydrocarbon fuels, which is best for military operations.
- With portable field equipment, this ammonia can be converted into explosives, gunpowder, electricity, or mechanical power.
- Ammonia can be stored cheaply and indefinitely in lightweight pressure vessels. Allows clean energy from wind and solar to be stored and used much later.
